Uvis Slakteris won the Scandinavian F2 Open & Nordic Championship first rounds

It's very rare that the heat of the field increases after the red lights go off at the start of a race, but that's what happened in the opening round of the 2010 Nordic Championship and Scandinavian F2 Open in Horsens, Denmark.

2009 Scandinavian Champion - Riga Powerboat Teamdriver Uvis Slakteris being in leading position was chased by last year UIM F2 World Champion Johan Coenradi from Holland Boatsport Racing Team who is driving with a brand new DAC boat, made by 10th time UIM F1 World Champion Guido Cappellini.

Both rivals tried to catch up Swede Erik Stark from GeTel Racing and Englishman Owen Jelf from Jelf Racing. Stark had made his way through to fill 3rd place ahead of Jelf. Good results also showed by Norvegians Rich Ivar Hakonsen from Scandinavian Challengers, returning back after a one year brake and Mette Bjerknaes from Bjerknaes Racing, respectively secured 5th and 6th place.

It was a close battle between old adversaries Slakteris and Coenradi. Also last year they tried to beat each other. Latvian driver won Danish Grand Prix second time in a row with reserve boat because his battle horse is still waiting to be shipped from Saudi Arabia to Europe.

This time Horsens is my lucky place. I was stressed during the race, but very happy when I won it! This season had started successfully. There had been a lot of feelings and obstacles during the weekend. Without tight fight between drivers and choppy water, my team was forced to resolve technical problems with a piston. We changed it, but we were not sure that the engine will last out until the end of race. Everything was fine and I could not wish tom get more in so high professional racing level, said lucky winner Slakteris after the race.

Mother Earth produced hot sunshine and just a gentle cool breeze for the duration of the race which was enjoyed by a large crowd of local enthusiasts. Series promoter Leif Ahlborg thanks to everybody and welcome back next year.

"Scandinavian F2 Open"

Scandinavian F2 Open Series is one of the most spectacular concepts what

powerboating is offering. Championship series is an effort of the organizers, teams,

sponsors and national federations.

The start of the Scandinavian F2 Open for power boating is just an hours away at the

start of a very hectic beginning in the 2010 campaign. The first round of the series

will be held in lovely Danish city in east Jutland on 22nd of May.

Defending UIM F2 World Champion Johan Coenradi from Netherlands will try to

beat second place holder Uvis Slakteris from Riga Powerboat Team, Latvia and one

of the strongest drivers in the previous seasons British Owen Jelf.

The old “sea wolves” will try to challenge young “lions”: Mette Bjerknes from

Norway and Ola Pettersson from Sweden. Also Erik Stark from Sweden and Rich Ivar

Hakonsen from Norway had promised to do everything for taking part in the

breathtaking event.

During the race drivers are competing not only against the rivals, but also against

changing and always unpredictable conditions of water and weather, reaching the turn

buoy in over 175 kph and they accelerate in a split of second out to the next one.

Each lap presents new wave patterns and subtle wind shifts. The track is never

constant. Teamwork is the key. Driver, radiomen, crew chief and equipment must

work together. All concerns outside must be put aside on the race day. There is a little

margin for the errors.

“I am happy to organize the race in Horsens for the second consecutive year and I

hope that everybody will spend great time here in the beautiful Horsens enjoying

powerboat show and speed festival. I am sure that Nordic Championship and

Scandinavian F2 Open will be successful and great event for the local authorities,

supporters, sponsors and fans. We are looking forward for the long term corporation.

I wish good luck and safe race to the all drivers. Let the best win the race and the

show must go on!” concluded series promoter Leif Ahlborg.

"Scandinavian F2 Open"

This new SCANDINAVIAN F2 OPEN  is a result of the successful Formula 2000 Mercury Grand Prix. This series has been organised under our umbrella since 1997. Mercury has been our main partner all years. Now we are ready for next step. We are already well prepared for coming season. There is a series of five events on our tour visiting Denmark, Latvia and Sweden prepared.

There are some very important issues changed since the last few years. Most important is, that we have a new partner in the management of the series. I am talking about Modris Kalnciems from Riga. We have been good friends since 1997, the first year of this series. Modris is CEO of the Latvian Watorsport Federation. Modris also has long experiance of racing himself as well as organizing international powerboat events. We will from now and on cooperate in developing the Scandinavian series as well as trying to do some improvements also for European powerboat racing.

The trophy on the picture, hold by Leif Ahlborg to the left and Modris Kalnciems to the right, will be awarded the winner of the 2010 series. We hope to see drivers representing some ten nations. Most participating drivers will be contracted to participate in all events in the 2010 series. Drivers have been announced from England, Finland, Holland, Kuwait, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Russia and Sweden. Last year we saw the Latvian gentleman Uvis Slakteris winning the Scandinavian Gold Medal as well as the Mercury Grand Prix. Uvis did also win Silver Medal in the UIM F2 World Championship series.

Very strange is, that no driver so far has been able to win this series more than ones, during the past ten years. That gives an idea how competitive this series is.

Looking at the 2010 UIM World Cup calendar, we gladely notice, that World Cup boats/drivers will be available from start of the European season. This means, we sure will have a very qualified field of driverss at the jetty from first round in Horsens Denmark May 22 and on. We hope to see both 2009 World Champion Johan Coenradi Holland and the WC silver medalist Uvis Slakteris Latvia in Horsens. We will once again see a joung lady attending, Mette Brandt Bjerknaes from Norway. She will be one of the drivers racing the new Mercury 200 Optimax XS. This is an engine within the modern low emission racing engine category.

Mette Bjerknaes, new driver 2010

It is a great pleasure to welcome a new Norweigian lady as driver in the F2/F2000 category. She is already well known within the powerboat sport in general.

Mette Bjerknaes is the first driver to announce she is going for the new Optimax 200XS. Beleive this is a good choice. We will have a real "Green engine" racing.

Her father is the former F1 driver Morten Bjerknaes. This will help getting started. Morten has longer experiance than most team managers.

Understand Morten look forward to try the new boat, but just for developing of propellers for Mette.

New drivers for 2010 season

Seems we are on a positive way back to good start fields for 2010.

There are some "Europeean drivers" announcing their interest to participate up here coming season. If we look to the situation only within Scandinavia, we can see three drivers prospects for the new Optimax. Very interesting. We will see some technical development again. Long time ago. Also see two new drivers racing the conventional equipment. This is better than what we have seen the last few years.

Latest News for 2010 season!

Our preparation for 2010 is going on as planned. There are four events confirmed on the calendar, at this very moment. It is planned for another one event, but there is a possibility of all together six qualified races.

No race in clash with World Cup so far. First round is planned for Horsens as per May 22. Also Formula Mercury will be invited, if there are some Swedish drivers available. Second round is for Strangnas June 12. This event is also for Formula Mercury/F4s, if we have at least six boats/drivers interested in Scandinavia.

Third round is for Gothenburg August 7. This event is decided in cooperation with Club Wrom on the west coast. We are planning this event in cooperation with the P1 World Championship Organisation.

Fourth race confirmed is Karlskrona August 14. This race was on the calendar already 2009, but had unfortunately to be cancelled due to the fact, two main sponsors did withdraw their sponsorship in last minute. Very sad, but now everything is in order. Local service will be delivered by the former local organiser in Karlshamn. They are used to our race conditions. This will be a very interesting part of Karlskrona Sail".

In addition, there is a possibility of another two very interesting events. More info about these events will follow pretty soon.

Our organisation is upgraded for 2010, to be able to develop the Scandinavian series back to a much higher level again. We beleive, the economy in general already is in beginning of recovery. This means, there ought to be better economic possibilties for all involved.

New very important person will be presented soon. Also well known Gordon Sutherland from England is contracted OOD for 2010, as long as our races does not clash with his job for UIM. Seems we will se participators during 2010 from at least ten nation. We know there is a great interest from drivers also from outside Scandinavia.

Full project presentation on 2010, including eventual new name of the series, will be done during Stockholm International Boat Fair, March 5-14.

Welcome to our new website!

After a few months disappointment with the Norweigian hosting of our web, we now have the pleasure to welcome all friends within the Powerboating to our new web. It is not completed yet. Empty maps will be filled up as much as possible during the next weeks.

There are a lot of rumours and things “in the air” at the moment. Who is doing what? Will there be any F2 races in Scandinavia? Will there be any F2 WC races in Europe? Will all activities for F2 move to Middle East, Emirates and Saudi Arabia? What is UIM doing to support saving F2 in Europe on a reasonable level? Can we find a way for F2 cost saving? How do we develop new F2 drivers?

Main question probably is, will there be any of the established drivers equipment available in Europe from May to September.  A few very important discussions and even meetings will be done within coming ten days. Sure something good will come out of this activities.

One thing to count on is, that we have four very qualified events on our F2 calendar for Scandinavia 2010, announced to NA in September as usual. First round is Horsens in Denmark May 22. The calendar will be published on this web Tuesday January 12.
